The correct name for the Big Island is Hawaii, or the Island of Hawaii. We call it the Big Island to make it easier to define the island from the state.
The Island of Hawaii has three districts. Kailua Kona Town which includes the Keauhou region. Waikoloa which includes the Kohala region, and Hilo which includes the Volcanoes National Park.
This is an image of the Red Road in the Puna District. The eastern coast of the island offers unique opportunites to visit rainforest, tropical gardens, waterfalls, and the white sand beaches on the Waikoloa Coast. Kona Town, rocky beaches but the best snorkeling in the state of Hawaii and accommodations that will fit your budget if you are an adventure traveler.
